Video to SRT

Turn a video into an SRT subtitle file. Aixcut transcribes the audio, splits it into timed caption lines, and exports the result as .srt, so the same file loads in a player or an editor. Because SRT is plain text, you can also open it in any text editor to fix a single word. Sign in with desktop Chrome or Edge; supported source formats and export options follow the current workspace.

How to use Aixcut for this task

  1. STEP 01

Import the video or the audio

Add the file and let the transcription finish. Accuracy starts here: a noisy source produces wrong words that you then fix by hand.

  2. STEP 02

    Review the timed lines

Listen through and correct names, numbers and technical terms. Check that each line stays on screen long enough to read, and that the breaks fall at natural points.

  3. STEP 03

    Export as SRT

Save the subtitle file and load it next to the video to confirm the timing before you hand it to anyone else.

What an SRT file actually is

An SRT file is plain text: a sequence number, a start and end time, then the line of text, repeated to the end of the file. It carries no styling — no font, colour or position — which is exactly why almost everything can read it. If you need captions burned into the picture with a specific look, that is a different export from an SRT file.

Timing is the part people get wrong

A correct transcript with the wrong timings is still a bad subtitle file. Two things break it: lines that stay on screen for less than a second, and lines that break in the middle of a phrase. Read the file once at normal speed, not at your own reading speed, and fix both.

What the exported file does not include

An SRT file is a separate sidecar file. It does not burn captions into the video, does not add speaker labels unless the source already carries them, and does not translate anything. Check what the platform you are publishing to accepts before you assume a sidecar file is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this task, its limits and how to judge the result.

How do I get an SRT file from a video?

Import the video, review the captions, then request SRT output in the chat. The download uses a public cloud link, usually valid for 72 hours; do not use it for sensitive content. SRT is a separate subtitle file.

What is an SRT file?

A plain-text subtitle file. For each caption it stores a sequence number, a start and end time, and the text. It contains no styling, which is why most players and editors can read it.

Can VLC play SRT files?

Subtitle files in the SRT format are supported by VLC and most other players, as long as the file name matches the video or you load the subtitle manually.

Is there a free way to transcribe a video?

You can start on trial credits after signing in with desktop Chrome or Edge. Whether a given run is free depends on the current credit rules, so check before a long file.

Can I edit the SRT file afterwards?

Yes. SRT is plain text, so any text editor can open it. Fixing one word there is faster than re-running the transcription.
