Storyboard Generator

Turn a script into a shot-by-shot plan: what each shot shows, which lines of dialogue belong to it, and the order they run in. Storyboarding and film-level script breakdown are confirmed in Aixcut. This is a creative and pre-production plan — not a production breakdown sheet with props, wardrobe and shooting days.

How to use Aixcut for this task

  1. STEP 01

Add the script and the direction

Paste the script into the project and describe the creative direction, or the sections you want developed first.

  2. STEP 02

    Request the breakdown

Ask for shot descriptions with the relevant dialogue, and for pacing or camera-direction suggestions where you want them.

  3. STEP 03

    Review the sequence before production

Check the order, the story continuity and the dialogue, and revise the plan before anyone shoots against it.

Script breakdown in film, and what this page is

In production, a script breakdown is a scheduling document: the assistant director tags every element — cast, props, wardrobe, vehicles, effects — and divides the script into eighths in order to plan shooting days. A storyboard breakdown answers a different question: what does the camera see, in what order, and what is being said over it. This page is the second one. If you need the first, you need a production breakdown sheet.

Break the script where the picture changes

A shot change happens when what the viewer is looking at changes, not when a sentence ends. Read the script aloud and mark the moments the visual has to move — a new location, a new speaker, a detail the narration has just introduced. Breaking on sentence boundaries produces a plan where the picture lags one step behind the words.

Treat suggested pacing as a starting point

Suggested shot durations come from the text, not from the footage you will actually end up with. Check them against the narration and against what you can realistically shoot, and expect the plan to change on set. The value of a breakdown is that it forces those decisions before the shoot rather than during it.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this task, its limits and how to judge the result.

What is the best software for a script breakdown?

It depends which breakdown you mean. A production breakdown needs element tagging and eighths; a storyboard breakdown needs shots in order with the dialogue attached. Work out which one your production actually asks for before you choose.

How do I divide a script into eighths?

A page of script is divided into eight equal parts, measured by the page rather than by the word count, so shooting time can be planned. That convention belongs to production scheduling; a storyboard breakdown works from shot changes instead.

What are the three parts of a script?

A common three-part structure is setup, confrontation and resolution. Labels vary by format, but the parts establish a situation, develop its conflict and bring it to an outcome.

What are the 5 basic elements of a screenplay?

Scene heading, action, character name, dialogue and parenthetical are the ones most often listed. A breakdown reads all of them, but the shot decisions come from the action and the dialogue.

Can Aixcut create a storyboard from my script?

Yes. Storyboarding and film-level script breakdown are confirmed. You can refine the shot list and the sequence afterwards.

Are the suggested shot durations exact?

No. Review them against the narration, the footage you actually have, and the pace you want.
