Subtitles & translation

Add Subtitles

Add subtitles to a video either from a subtitle file you already have or by generating them from the audio, then fix the lines that matter before publishing. Aixcut adds and edits subtitles in a desktop Chrome or Edge workspace, on the same timeline as the picture.

Add Subtitles

How to use Aixcut for this task

  1. STEP 01

Choose the source of the text

Import an SRT or VTT if one exists, or generate captions from the dialogue when starting from scratch.

  2. STEP 02

    Fix wording and styling

Correct names and numbers, then set the font size and position so the text stays readable over the picture.

  3. STEP 03

    Check timing and export

Step through the captions at playback speed and export the format the destination accepts.

Two ways to get the text, one review process

Importing an existing file saves transcription but inherits its errors and its timings. Generating from audio gives you timings that already match this edit but sends unfamiliar words through a recogniser. Either way the review pass is the same: names, numbers, then line breaks.

Readable over the picture, not just correct

Subtitles fail when they are technically accurate and impossible to read: too small on a phone, too low for the platform interface, or sitting on top of a bright area. Check the result at the size most viewers will see it, and move the text rather than shrinking it.

Text you can still edit beats text burned into the frame

Keeping subtitles as a separate layer means a typo found after publishing can be fixed by re-exporting, rather than by re-rendering video with the words drawn into it. Keep the editable version with the project.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this task, its limits and how to judge the result.

How do I add subtitles to a video?

Import an SRT or VTT, or generate captions from the audio, then correct the text, set the styling and export with the timing you checked.

Can I add subtitles without a subtitle file?

Yes. Generate them from the dialogue in the video, then review the result before exporting.

Should subtitles be burned into the video?

Burn them in only when the destination cannot display a separate caption track. Keeping them editable makes a later correction a re-export rather than a re-edit.

How do I make subtitles readable on a phone?

Check them at phone size, increase the text size and move the position away from bright areas and from the platform interface.

Is there a free way to add subtitles automatically?

Trial access and subtitle export terms follow the current workspace. Review names, numbers and timings after automatic generation.
