Edit video

Remove Audio

Remove the audio from a video and keep the picture, so a clip can play muted, carry a new soundtrack, or run under a voiceover. Aixcut mutes and removes sound in a desktop Chrome or Edge workspace, with the project ready for the next audio pass.

Remove Audio

How to use Aixcut for this task

  1. STEP 01

    Load the clip

Add the video to the project and play enough of it to hear exactly where the unwanted sound starts and stops.

  2. STEP 02

    Remove or mute the audio

Detach the sound and delete it, or mute the track when you may still want it back later.

  3. STEP 03

    Verify silence and export

Play the whole clip to confirm nothing reappears, then export the silent version.

Remove versus mute: pick before you delete

Removing the audio track deletes it from the edit; muting keeps the track in place but silent. Muting is the safer choice while you are still deciding, because restoring it costs nothing. Remove only once you are certain the original sound will not be needed again.

Cases where you must remove the audio

Replacing a shaky location recording with a clean voiceover, using footage as background under narration, publishing a loop or b-roll where the original sound would distract, or clearing rights, because a track you do not own cannot be published even if the picture is yours.

Check the result before publishing

After the sound is gone, confirm there is no leftover hum at the joins, that any new audio you added is in sync throughout, and that the file has a silent audio channel where a platform requires one rather than no track at all.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this task, its limits and how to judge the result.

How do I remove audio from a video?

Load the clip, detach and delete the audio track, then play the whole edit to be sure no part of the sound remains before exporting.

Is removing audio the same as muting it?

Muting keeps the track and sets it silent, so it can be restored. Removing deletes the track from the edit. Mute while deciding, remove when certain.

Can I remove the audio and then add new sound?

Yes. Once the original track is gone, add music, a new voiceover or replacement sound and check the sync across the whole clip.

Will the exported file have no audio track at all?

That depends on the export options available in the workspace. Some destinations require a silent channel rather than a missing one, so check the platform requirement when it matters.

Is there a free way to remove audio from a video?

Trial access and export terms follow the current workspace rules. Removing audio itself does not establish a promise of unlimited free use.
